Information Literacy- Dr. Walling

I so enjoyed Dr. Wallings visit yesterday! Her lecture certainly gave me a new perspective in selecting books for students with disabilities as well as being more sensitive to how difficult so much of what we take for granted in a classroom can be for a student with a disability. I discussed the Unfair Spellling test with my husband and told him how hard it was to hear the words.

I found a wonderful website about with a 2003 manual prepared by the Florida State University and funded by the Florida State Department of Education and federal funding under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. This manual is for educators. I hope you will find it as interesting as I have: http://www.cpt.fsu.edu/ese/pdf/acom_edu.pdf .

See you next Tuesday!

Good website for Educators! I found a similar one from the SC State Dept. of Education, Office of Exceptional Children. It would be interesting to compare the contents of these two sites to see how these two southeastern states compare and contrast on how disabilities are addressed in the classroom. Cathy at Ivansden

You are right, Cathy. If I get a spare moment I will try to make a comparison and comment on the blog. I actually saved the Fla. site to my favorites so that I could possibly use it for a resource at a later date.
