Edu-250,Information Literacy
Hello, everyone! I am so sad that our class is ending. I have so enjoyed this class! I loved everyone's Learning Centers! I am so pleased that I will be able to save these Learning Centers and use them in the future. I am so looking forward to beginning my core education classes at USC and I feel so prepared with all of the resources that we have been given this semester. I wish all of you good luck. Cathy, I will come back to visit you. Thank you for all that you taught us.

Edu-250, Information Literacy
Hello, everyone! I am sure the rest of you are as busy as I am finishing up. I can't wait to see everyone's Learning Center. The Big 6 certainly gave me alot to think about as a future teacher. Even though I will be teaching young students, I believe there are certain foundational elements of the Big 6 that I can impart to my students. With that in mind, I have a couple of articles that I would like to share with everyone. I hope you all will enjoy them. See you Tuesday!

Edu-250, Information Literacy
Hello, everyone! I enjoyed the article on teaching our students to understand individuals with learning disabilities. I liked the fact that they gave us so many resources that are available however, I tried to go to the Smithsonian Virtual Museum. I think perhaps they were experiencing some technical difficulties because the audio portion of the Museum was not functioning. I really enjoyed the assignment last week and thought that the PBS site was very helpful in increasing understanding of the obstacles that students with disabilities must overcome on a daily basis. With that in mind, I would like to share with you an article that talks about the possibility of learning disabilities developing in children due to lead in toys and other sources. This article was in the September 2007 issue of Time:

It was very enlightening. See you Tuesday!

Edu-250, Information Literacy
Hello, everyone! I just wanted to share some websites that were shared with me from my field studies at A.C. Moore. The first is called StarFall and this has games that can be used to help the students with reading skills. The second website is called Math Magician and of course helps with math skills. These are free and the students in the first grade classes that I observed loved these games. The last website is a virtual math website with games. Enjoy!

Information Literacy- Dr. Walling
I so enjoyed Dr. Wallings visit yesterday! Her lecture certainly gave me a new perspective in selecting books for students with disabilities as well as being more sensitive to how difficult so much of what we take for granted in a classroom can be for a student with a disability. I discussed the Unfair Spellling test with my husband and told him how hard it was to hear the words.
I found a wonderful website about with a 2003 manual prepared by the Florida State University and funded by the Florida State Department of Education and federal funding under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. This manual is for educators. I hope you will find it as interesting as I have: http://www.cpt.fsu.edu/ese/pdf/acom_edu.pdf .

Edu-250 Information Literacy
Hello, everyone!
I certainly enjoyed Mrs. Thompson's presentation on ETVStreamline. I am so excited about all that she showed us that is available. In fact, I will be using alot of what she showed us in my Learning Center. I am planning on using some of the video in an Inquiry project for my Technology for Teachers class.
One of the sites that is particularly cute is Smart Cat. In his videos, he is teaching chiildren how to be healthy. His site is: http://myetv.org/education/etvkids/smartcat/videos/index.html. You will enjoy it!
Thank you so much for the Webquest information last week. I have actually created a Webquest for second graders called "Our Columbia Webquest." It takes a class through several sites in Columbia including "Riverbanks Zoo" and "Little Pigs" barbeque restaurant. I look forward to being able to create other webquests that may allow my students to take in class field trips!
See you Tusesday!

SCDISCUS-Information Literacy
Thanks, Daniel, for your comment on my last posting! I enjoyed Ms. Thompson's class on SCDISCUS. Wow, I just loved all of the resources available and enjoyed using SCDISCUS to do last week's assignment. One website that I particularly enjoyed was http://galenet.galegroup.com/servlet/KidsInfoBits;jsessionid=7096198CAF552463740673AC47A34D1C?locID=scschools. I can tell that this is a website that will be extremely helpful as I gather information for my learning center. Another site that was very interesting is one that is showcased in Kathy Schrock's website from the National Institute for Health. This link is http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/sleep/starslp/. What I liked about this site is that it has lessons to explain to children why sleep is so very important. Will provide more information as I find it!

Website scrutiny
Col_250
This posting is for my Information Literacy class. I enjoyed the assignment this week on scrutinizing websites. The RTYHospital website was very outrageous. I just giggled when I found out the designer was a filmmaker. This assignment certainly makes one view websites with a bit more skepticism. I think I will now approach most websites with a "show me" attitude.

Hello, everyone!
I certainly enjoyed our visit to Oak Grove Elementary on Tuesday. I didn't realize all of the resources that the media specialist can provide!
I thoroughly enjoyed our assignment for this week! I am looking forward to using the SCTLC as a resource for my learning center project.
See you all next Tuesday!
